The Diego Rivera Mural Crisis
Reports from El Universal, The New York Times, and MISSION LOCAL
Hello Alumni and Friends of the SFAI Community,

Our lead in the January Newsletter is about the SFAI Diego Rivera Mural controversy. At the heart of the discussion is whether the Board of Trustees should have the right to sell the mural to save the school. There are strong emotions felt on multi sides of the issue. We have decided to post all the media links, domestic and International since the first of 2021. We have included domestic press, international press from Mexico and letter responses from the SFAI Adjunct Faculty, a recent MFA Foreign student who arrived when the pandemic began, and renowned alumnus Kathy Opie.
Several zoom Town Halls are listed for your participation. The soonest is Monday, with the SF Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee which is taking up the mural issue to protect the Rivera mural by keeping it in place at SFAI. Check below for all zoom links to participate. There will be a faculty zoom meeting this coming Tuesday to discuss the mural, school leadership and governance. The final zoom meeting next week is with the Re-Imagine Committee, which will present their final report to the SFAI Community. As a follow through on their commitment to the community they will share their analysis of the current state of affairs of SFAI. Questions and Answers to follow.
Welcome to 2021!
