3 days of films, screened at 3 Bay-Area cinemas,
Filmmakers (famous and infamous!) all from SFAI.
Named after the legendary Studio 8 at SFAI's 800 Chestnut Campus, this will be the inaugural Studio 8 Film Festival presenting works by SFAI alumni and former faculty!
This year's poster was designed by the legendary SFAI faculty Art Hazelwood.
A limited edition of 100 prints will be for sale at the venues before the screenings. All proceeds will benefit the SFAI Legacy Foundation & Archive!

Studio 8 Film Festival at Shapeshifters Cinema
Experimental Shorts curated by Toban Nichols
On Friday night, June 14, 7-10 pm, the festival’s opening show at Shapeshifters Cinema curated by Toban Nichols will showcase films by former SFAI film department chair Kerry Laitala, LA-based filmmaker and performance artist Jibz Cameron aka Dynasty Handbag and a collection of SFAI alumni shorts.

Studio 8 Film Festival at Balboa Theater
Juneteenth Shorts curated by April Martin
On Saturday, June 15, the Balboa Theater will present Angela Davis: Walls into Bridges by Ed Guerrero, as part of a Juneteenth-themed show of film shorts curated by April September. A second program features a screening of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by Ang Lee for which Peter Pau, cinematographer and SFAI alum, received an Academy Award. — a tour-de-force double-plus screening! — Both screenings included in one $20 ticket (look for DBL FTR ticket), single show tickets for $15. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase in Balboa Theater lobby. Stay after shows to mingle with the filmmakers.

On Sunday afternoon June 16, 1-3 pm, Roxie Theater will host a selection of George and Mike Kuchar's lush, ecstatic and delirious films from their time at the Art Institute curated by Marian Wallace.
Mike Kuchar will introduce the films and will be interviewed on stage by RE/Search founder and
underground icon, V. Vale. George and Mike’s films, spanning the decades, will include: Bloodsucker, I, an Actress, Happy Birthday! and Asphalt Ribbon—Plus more surprises!
